The Shack, Gatehouse of Fleet
The Shack is ideally situated in the Galloway Forest Park on the edge of Gatehouse of Fleet. It sits in a wide clearing which gets the sun most of the day, yet is surrounded by oak, beech and other hardwood trees. There is an abundance of wildlife in the forest immediately surrounding The Shack including red squirrels and roe deer.
The property was formerly a Forestry Commission Office and has been tastefully converted to a high standard two bedroom holiday home. The property has under floor heating throughout. The main bedroom has ensuite bathroom.
There is a modern well fitted kitchen where you can sit at the breakfast bar enjoying a wonderful view through the trees to Ken Lum.
There are some beautiful beaches and coastline within a 10 minute drive of The Shack. Or if you enjoy cycling or walking you can go the 2-3 miles past the Cally Palace Hotel to Sandgreen with its wonderful beach, or continue to Carrick Bay and along to Ardwall Island.
There are some pleasant signed walks in the forest adjacent to The Shack. The area has some beautiful cycle routes and Route 7 runs through the forest. The area is a golfer’s paradise with several courses within an hour's drive. These include the beautiful 9-hole Gatehouse course 5 minutes away and 18-hole courses at Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, Newton Stewart and New Galloway, and Turnberry is only an hour away.
Kirkcudbright with its art galleries, castle and harbour is 15 minutes away and Castle Douglas with its interesting shops, Threave Castle and Gardens, is 20 minutes away. If you head away from the coast into the Galloway Hills there is sailing and fishing on Loch Ken and walking and cycling in the forests and hills.
