Gatehouse gets a sensory garden As part of their planned upgrading and development of Garries Park, Gatehouse Development Initiative Group have been awarded a Grant from Dumfries & Galloway Council of £2,000 to match funding of £2,500 from the Awards for All initiative to build a Sensory Garden in Garries Park. Irene Burnie of the GDI said. “We would like to thank Dumfries & Galloway Council and Awards for All for their very generous funding. The Sensory Garden will join the Kick Wall, the Giro Spiral and the Wildflower Meadow which have been developed by the GDI over the past few years. The Wildflower Meadow is three years old and we are very happy with its development as this year the Fleet Valley Volunteers identified forty-nine wild flowers and grasses blossoming in the meadow and now it has been cut for the winter, hopes are high that even more will be blossoming in future summers. Now the GDI has the funding, we hope that work on the Sensory Garden will soon commence. We have been encouraged by the number of residents of Gatehouse who have volunteered to help build the Garden but we need some more to help with building and providing plants. For those of us volunteers who are willing but untrained, training will be given especially in the building sector. Anyone interested in volunteering to help build and/or maintain the sensory garden can call me, Irene Burnie, on 01557 814276.” |
