Provost's Report 2011-12

As acting Chairman since September 2011, I wish to place on record my thanks for support given to me by Community Councillors including the Vice Chairman Ian McConchie, ex-officio members and our Secretary Sheila McKean.

Once again, this past year, Community Councillors (all volunteers) including the ex-officio members (Dumfries and Galloway Dee Ward Councillors - Patsy Gilroy, Jane Maitland and Tommy Jacques) have worked with enthusiasm and diligence in serving the interests of our town and its hinterland. I therefore, thank each of them (including former Councillor Pat Jacques) for the contribution they made to the work of our Community Council.

Member of the Community Council since 2001 and member of the Gatehouse Development Initiative since 2003.
Represent the Council on the Gatehouse Development Initiative, the Cally Designed Landscape Committee, the Local Housing Group, the Japanese Knotweed Eradication Programme, and the Council’s Planning Committee. I am also a member of the Fleet Valley Countryside Team (volunteers).
On behalf of the Council I pursue matters relating to the environment and infrastructure in and around town. Subjects under discussion are the A75 junction with the A727, National Trust for Scotland Vinniehill site, path alongside the mill pond, and various safety matter in town.
I compiled the schedule of areas of knotweed in and around town and record the effect of the spraying which takes place twice a year.
On behalf of the Gatehouse Development Initiative I am investigating the stabilisation of the structure which was once the old school by the Cally Lake and increasing awareness of the snowdrop festival relative to the Cally Woods.
