Snowdrop Festival, Cally Woods
The snowdrops in Cally Woods have appeared very early this year. No doubt it is all down to the unusually mild weather we have experienced over the past few months. They first appeared in the first week of January. The official Visit Scotland Snowdrop Festival starts on the first week of February so the early arrival this year illustrates how difficult it is for Visit Scotland to set a date for the start of the official festival, months in advance. An interpretation board located at the Murray Centre, which is off the main drive to the Cally Hotel, through the imposing gate lodges, gives useful information and indicates where the large drifts can be found. Although there are some very large banks, the flowers are well distributed all over the woods.
It is worth noting these other local areas where snowdrops can be seen.
Kirkdale Estate, Carsluith, Newton Stewart
Fleet Valley National Scenic Area, Gatehouse of Fleet
Broughton House, Kirkcudbright
