First aid course for Gatehouse volunteers

The car park at Gatehouse Community Centre was a sheet of ice when I arrived at 8.30 to help set up the planned one day first aid course for the Fleet Valley volunteers.  The caretaker was already at the centre and had got the heating on and showed me the grit box and grit was soon liberally spread across the access to the centre.

We were then joined by course giver George Fell, who had made it to Gatehouse from the Trossachs, sleeping in his car on a blocked M74 overnight.  Twelve volunteers were all in the centre by 9 am ready for the course and we were joined by Anna Johnson, Scenic Area officer.  We enjoyed an excellent full day emergency first aid course very much tailored to the needs of a voluntary group like ours out and about in the woods and hills around Gatehouse.
