Gatehouse Development Initiative signs up to Biosphere Charter

The Gatehouse Development Initiative is a keen supporter of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere and hopes that, over time, the existence of the Biosphere will help to encourage sustainable development across South West Scotland.  Biospheres are recognised by UNESCO and the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere is the only Biosphere in Scotland, so this provides are real opportunity for communities within the Biosphere to benefit from association with this internationally recognised designation.

The GDI is proud to be the first organisation to sign up to the Biosphere Charter, which recognises all those who help to conserve the natural resources of the Biosphere, who support the economy to benefit local people and nature, promote cultural heritage and local products, contribute to the health and well-being of the community, develop knowledge, understanding and promote research and raise awareness of the Biosphere.

The Fleet Valley National Scenic Area has become a useful tool for promoting the Gatehouse area. By signing up to the Biosphere charter we hope to be able to make use of this international designation for the benefit of the people of the Gatehouse area and beyond.
