Big Lottery Chief sees progress on Cally Boundaries Project.

Dharmendra Kanani, director of the Big Lottery Fund in Scotland stopped at Cally gates to day to see progress on the Cally Boundaries project.

Mr Kanani, accompanied by Patsy Gilroy, Convenor of Dumfries and Galloway Council were today able to see the good use to which Heritage Lottery and Leader funding has been put to restore the boundary dykes at Cally.  Since the Spring volunteers have been clearing the boundary dykes of ivy and other vegetation and two teams of dykers have already rebuilt 497 square metres of wall.  Members of the Gatehouse Development Initiative were on hand to describe the work which has already been carried out, not just on the boundary dykes but also on projects within the Cally Woods.

So far, a section of ancient field dyke has been repaired; the haha at Cally has been cleared of vegetation and largely rebuilt and much of the boundary wall has been restored.  Next year work will be completed on the boundary wall leading into Gatehouse and on work will be done on other parts of the boundary walls as well as the unique sunken dyke in Cally woods.
