Ron Forster, Rural Champion

Gatehouse of Fleet community Councillor and Development Initiative member Ron Forster has become a well deserved Community Champion.

At the prestigious Dumfries and Galloway Rural Awards ceremony in the Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries on 15th November, Ron and five others from across Dumfries and Galloway  received the award of Community Champion.  Ron has been a regular volunteer with the Fleet Valley volunteers since they were established 10 years ago.  His award recognises all the work Ron has done in organising local volunteers to carry out environmental projects in the Fleet Valley. Ron has organised projects in Garries Park and Wood and in the Cally Woods, in maintaining the Port Macadam foot path, in clearing knotweed and in improving the environment of the River Fleet.  His award was welcomed by all who work with him in the volunteering team.
