Memoria project gets under way

The Gatehouse Development Initiative is a partner in an exciting new Europe wide project with communities from 6 European countries.

The Gatehouse Development Initiative is working with communities from France, Italy, Greece the Czech Republic and Slovakia on a Grundtvig, life long learning project funded by the European Community.  The aim of this project is for the participating communities to share their experience of helping to develop sustainable tourism by making good use of the local heritage.  At the first meeting, which took place in France in December, the partners agreed on a work programme which will include workshops on making the most of local history and culture, drawing up a heritage inventory, producing a web site and preparing  guidelines for ways of stimulating sustainable tourism through better use of local heritage and encouraging local residents to be ambassadors for their area.

All the partners will be coming to Gatehouse in September.
