    The Community Council organised a survey of residents in February this year to guage opinion on a range of community topics and to seek suggestions and ideas to make Gatehouse better.  600 surveys were distributed and there were 58 replies with a good mix of views and suggestions. The resilts are available here as a pdf download.

  • Memories weekend raises great interest

    Events in Gatehouse connected with the photograph collection of William McMurray raised great interest when they were displayed in the Community Centre. 

  • European project group visits Gatehouse

    A Grundtvig European Life Long Learning project group visited Gatehouse on 28 and 29 May to look at what the Gatehouse Development Initiative is doing to promote the local rural heritage.

  • Sunshine greets Trusty's hill Trainees

    The sun shone brightly as participants gathered at the Mill on the Fleet for the start of the Trusty's Hill Guided Walk Training Day organised as part of the All Our Stories Gatehouse of Fleet in the Dark Ages Project.

  • Salty tales from the seashore!

    21 pupils aged between 7 and 9 years from Gatehouse Primary School have just celebrated the completion of their seashore project, with an artwork for the school which is a reminder of creative and busy learning days on the beach at Cardoness and in the classroom.

Caerlaverock


Caerlaverock Castle
One of Scotland's greatest medieval castles - about an hour away, south of Dumfries.  Can be combined with a visit to Sweetheart Abbey, the New Abbey Cornmill, (both also Historic Scotland), Caerlaverock Bird Reserve, or The National Museum of Costume at New Abbey. Historic Scotland:read more.
 

The Bakehouse


The Bakehouse
Formerly a bakery, and still featuring the original oven, the Bakehouse in the High Street is an arts venue promoting the literary arts live.  Poetry readings and associated events take place most months.  More.  

Cambret Moor


Cambret Moor
A stone circle consisting of a central stone and circle of 28 smaller boulders.  The interior of the circle was strewn with smaller cobble-sized stones. More.
 

The Mill on the Fleet


The Mill on the Fleet is a restored Mill, once part of Gatehouse's main mill complex.  It is now a visitor and exhibition centre with a varied programme of temporary exhibitions throughout the year, as well as displays on the history and heritage of Gatehouse and the Fleet Valley.  The Mill also houses the Tourist Information Centre, the Riverside Café, a shop, and a bookshop. Carsluith Castle


Carsluith Castle
Another local castle to the west of Gatehouse, a 16th century towerhouse, very well preserved and in the care of Historic Scotland. Historic Scotland:read more.
