for swimming in the summer and for a variety of watersports. You'll also
find boats moored in the bays around Gatehouse of Fleet.
Walking
Gatehouse of Fleet offers unrivalled opportunities for all sorts of walks. There are trails of varying length through the beautiful Cally Oak Woods and Carstramon Wood. There are walks to the sea and across open country within the Fleet Valley National Scenic Area, as well as longer walks in the surrounding hills.

Festivals & Galas
Gatehouse of Fleet is host to festivals throughout the year including
the Music Festival and Beer Festival. The annual Gatehouse of Fleet Gala
takes place over the last week in July.
The Wickerman Festival takes place in July each year near Dundrennan, not far from Gatehouse. The cult film "The Wickerman" used locations in and around Gatehouse. For more information on this visit the Wickerman site.
YMCA Gatehouse Drop In Centre
This new purpose built Centre opened in April 2002 provides a place where
local young people (Academy age to 25 years) can meet regularly with their
friends in an informal, safe environment.
We also welcome young people who are visiting or on holiday in Gatehouse
of Fleet.
Facilities include: Pool Table, Disco Music System , Computers with Internet,
X Box Game Machine, Play Station, Tuck Shop, Comfortable Sitting Area.

Forestry Commission Scotland has established part of Galloway Forest Park as the first Dark Sky Park in the UK, the result of some 15 months of work pulling together audits, controls and readings from around the forest park. Announced on Monday the 16th November 2009 in the International Year of Astronomy, it is a massive achievement for the UK and the south West of Scotland.

FLY FISHING INSTRUCTION. For beginners,
March to the end of September. Hire of rod, reel, line and landing net.
TROUT FISHING. Mid July - end of
August and week-ends only 1st April - mid July and during September. Some
evening fishing available.
SEA TROUT AND SALMON FISHING. From
July - end of October (often the best time) on the River Fleet - a very
attractive spate river which fishes well when the water is right. You
can also fish for sea trout at night in low water conditions.
