Galloway Carbon Action Plan As part of a Scottish Government funded initiative, the Climate Challenge Fund, three Galloway communities, Dalbeattie, Gatehouse of Fleet and Creetown, have taken up the challenge to better understand and reduce their carbon emissions. The Galloway Carbon Action Project will run for 16 months and will involve addressing energy in homes, transport, food, waste and leisure. The aim is to achieve a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through awareness raising, household energy assessments, waste and transport initiatives, and reducing car usage. A host of events and activities over the next year will be aimed at mobilising members of each community so that their collective efforts reduce overall carbon emissions. The project team will work directly with people in their homes on finding opportunities for them to enjoy lower carbon lives, while saving money on heating, lighting and transport bills. Applications are invited for one full time and two part-time posts based in Gatehouse. The Galloway Carbon Action Project is about local people achieving local carbon solutions. The project will employ a number of community members who will be trained to carry out domestic carbon footprint audits and develop Community Carbon Action Plans. These posts will be part time temporary posts for 6 months, from January to July 2010. If you have an interest in being a part of this exciting new initiative, like working as a team, and can manage your time effectively then we would be interested in hearing from you. Full training will be provided.
